What about me? 3 Thoughts on Inclusive Leadership

I know I have said ‘“What about me!” more than a few times in my life.

My guess is we all have.

I started a recent webinar by playing the song “What about me” by Moving Pictures. It has a powerful message about inclusion.

It’s not nice to be left out when you want to be included.

And organisations are discovering that the more diverse their people are, the greater the benefits to all concerned when they are included.

Benefits of Inclusive Leadership

The Diversity Council of Australia lists the following as the benefits of Inclusive Leadership.

  • Profit and Performance
  • Innovation
  • Engagement and Opportunity
  • Well-being
  • Productive Conflict
  • Legal Risk
  • Talent Costs

‘Signature traits’ of an Inclusive Leader

In a recent research paper, Deloitte writes about the ‘signature traits’ of an Inclusive Leader. Some of the ones I personally like are the ones that a Whole Brain approach can really help in, such as:

  • Commitment
  • Cognisance
  • Curiosity
